Spring Ephemerals are the local, native woodland plants that show up in the woods for a brief period of time, before the tree canopy fills in.

More details about the Spring Ephemerals Walk in the Woods:

We’ll look for Blood Root, Bluebells, Mayflowers, Spring Beauties, Wild Leeks, Skunk Cabbage, Lady’s Slippers, Colt’s Foot, Common Blue Violet, Cut-leaved Toothwort (one of my favorites), Yellow Trout Lily, Wood Anemone and more.

What’s on your Spring Ephemeral bingo card?

This walk was conceived of as a way to build take a break from the drumbeat of news, to honor the changes in many peoples lives in the DC area (I’m looking at you fellow RIF’d Feds and contractors), and connect with nature at one of its times of greatest change in the year.
